The Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana refused to accept the nomination forms of the Progressive People's Party (PPP) after the party failed to meet the stipulated deadline.

According to the EC, forms submitted after 5 PM will not be accepted, emphasizing that the premises of the EC are not intended for the completion of nomination forms.

Speaking during a press conference, Samuel Tettey, Deputy Director in charge of Operations, who was acting on behalf of Jean Mensa, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, stated that candidates are expected to complete their nomination forms and submit them within the specified time.

The commission clarified that although the forms would be received, they would not be accepted.

“We’re not expected to receive nominations after 5 PM. The premises of the EC are not where we complete forms. Candidates are expected to complete their nomination forms and file them within the specified time. We will receive the forms, but we are not going to accept them. I am acting on behalf of the Chairperson, who is the returning officer, so I’ll submit the report to the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission,” he said.

The EC stressed that adhering to deadlines is crucial for ensuring a fair and orderly election. Despite the PPP’s efforts, the EC insisted that rules and timelines are essential to maintaining the integrity of the electoral process.
