Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, NPP Running Mate to Nana Akufo-Addo, has said that Nana Akufo-Addo is truly committed to transforming Ghana and bridging the gap between the North and South and assured the people of the North that an NPP government under Nana Akufo-Addo would truly develop the North and not steal monies meant for Northern development as has happened in the last few years.
Dr. Bawumia made the comments in Wa, on the 5th leg of his ongoing Ramadan/Zongo Tour.
Speaking at the Wa Zongo Mosque, Dr. Bawumia explained that he was there to seek the prayers of all for Allah to guide and bless Ghana, especially as Ghana goes to the polls later this year.
“I know in all this struggle that it is only Allah who can make someone a President or Vice-President or Chief or King and that is why we are trying to pray as much as possible so that Allah would open the door for us, Nana Akufo-Addo and myself and that is why I am here to ask for your prayers,” he said.
The NPP Vice-Presidential Candidate explained that it is necessary to seek and work for change this year to stop and reverse the mismanagement and suffering of the Ghanaian people witnessed in the collapse of various social intervention programmes and the unbearable cost of living and unprecedented unemployment crisis facing the nation today.
“If you are in Ghana today you will know that Ghana needs a change, and we should all pray to Allah to deliver us that change so that the suffering of the people will reduce. Today we cannot pay our electricity bills, today we cannot pay our school fees, today our NHIS is not working, today our trainee allowances have been cancelled, our secondary schools in the North, and even teacher trainee schools are not getting their feeding grants, our youths cannot find employment and our economy is struggling. We need a change,” he added.
Dr. Bawumia disclosed that the key reasons why Nana Akufo-Addo selected him to be his Running Mate, first in 2008, was because Nana Akufo-Addo was focused on getting a team to help transform the Ghanaian economy and among others bridge the gap between the North and South.
He stated: “We are going to build a new economy where everybody is going to benefit. The North will see major development, we are not going to take SADA money and steal it, we will restore the trainee allowances, strengthen the NHIS and create jobs. It is going to be a new economy, and I am pleading with you that in 2016 vote for Nana Akufo-Addo and vote for Issahaku Tahiru as MP for Wa Central so we develop this country.”
Dr. Bawumia’s ongoing Zongo/Ramadan Tour has already taken him to the Obuasi East, Obuasi West and Bekwai constituencies in the Ashanti Region; Techiman South, Techiman North, Kintampo South and Kintampo North Constituencies in the Brong Ahafo Region and Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region.
While in Bolgatanga on Tuesday, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia visited the residence of the late Colonel (rtd) George Minyila, former Minister of State and former Ghana Ambassador to Burkina Faso to solidarize with the family on the loss of the renowned statesman and public servant. Dr. Bawumia is accompanied on the tour by Mustapha Hamid, Spokesperson to Nana Akufo-Addo.
