The Minister of Tourism and Modernization of the Capital city, Mr. Jake Obetsebi-Lamptey, on Monday May 11 launched a website for the tourism industry to promote the development of the sector.
According to the minister, the website, www.ghanatourism.gov.gh, is the basic information tool for the industry where tourists could obtain up-to-date information. Briefing the press, Mr. Obetsebi-Lamptey said that it was important in today?s world of Information and Community Technology (ICT) for organization to have websites to market their products and services.
According to him, the ministry had started a vigorous tourism marketing campaign with the gathering of information on the industry. He said the website would later be developed into a portal that would allow access to different websites with similar interests, and then into a metropolitan network that will become a service provider in the industry.
With that development, he said, the website would be self-sustaining, since it would provide partners who have no means to creating their own sites the opportunity to advertise or have pages on their services on the website. ?This will also enable tourists to make travel and accommodation bookings online, he pointed out.
The designer of the website and member of the GSUTDCI, Mr. Dave Hollis, said that the website is different from others because it has a lot of functions, such as enabling searches for a wide variety of interests in the industry.
