“Wee-smoking” on the increase in Asante-Akim South

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Samuel Sandow Latebu, the Asante-Akim South District Commander, has vowed to bring down the growing addiction of the youth in the area to “wee-smoking’ and gambling.

He said the twin evil of gambling and hard drugs had become a disturbing drawback on the academic career development of many young people in the district, and said this would be tackled head-on, adding that, they would go after the offenders and bring them to justice.

DSP Latebu was speaking at a ceremony to present raincoats and other items from the Juaso Traders Association to the Juaso Neighbourhood Watch Committee.

He praised the Committee for the good job it was doing to prevent petty crimes in the community.

Mr. De-graft Fokuo, the District Chief Executive (DCE), assured the members of the support of the assembly, saying it would do everything to assist with the needed logistics for efficient performance.

He commended the association for the gifts and urged other organizations and individuals to emulate the gesture.

Miss Mercy Osei, Spokesperson for the Traders, said the items are their contribution towards motivating members of the Committee to continue with the selfless service to the community.
