Some residents of Weija-Gbawe constituency in the Greater Accra Region are angry at the National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for the area, Ms. Obuobia Darko-Opoku.
The anger of the residents stems from the fact that NDC parliamentary hopeful was allegedly using land guards as her bodyguards.
And among the said bodyguards of Ms. Darko-Opoku, the aggrieved residents cited one Torkor and Amuda
According to them, Torkor was currently standing trial in court while Amuda who went into hiding for an alleged criminal offence has resurfaced to join her campaign team.
The residents said they ignored earlier information that Ms. Darko-Opoku was playing a major role for the release of the two alleged criminals but the resurfacing of the two on her campaign trail gives credence to the rumour.
“These acts of omission and commission on the part of Obuobia have the tendency of raising tension among the people of Weija-Gbawe.
According to them, justice has eluded Oblogo community “so seeing those suspects back in the community has the tendency to create chaos and reprisal attacks.”
The residents maintained that Weija is currently peaceful, and thus advised Ms. Darko-Opoku to desist from doing anything that will bring tension into the constituency.
“We recognise the critical role of peace and stability in the constituency and the nation as a whole. It is only in a peaceful atmosphere that workers can go about their normal routine of “baking their daily bread” for themselves and their dependants,” he added.
The residents said they have experienced a lot of Ms. Darko-Opoku’s unsavoury remarks about other people and are now convinced it is about time all Ghanaians join them to tell her to respect her fellow citizens.
