Mpohor (W/R) Dec. 4, GNA - Mr Benyameen Keelson, Deputy Western Regional Director of Centre for National Culture (CNC), on Thursday said it was imperative for government to assert its political will for the creation of a national cultural consciousness. He said the move would encourage the youth to appreciate the country's arts and culture. Mr Keelson was speaking at the regional celebration of the Cultural Awareness Month at Mpohor and Daboase in the Mpohor Wassa East District. The event was organised by the CNC for senior high schools in the two towns. Mr Keelson spoke on "Culture as panacea for the preservation of the moral fibre of the youth in the face of globalisation". He said creation of national cultural consciousness would enable the youth to see culture as an indispensable element in national development. He called on parents and guardians to use the positive aspects of the country's culture to groom their wards into useful and productive citizens. Mr Keelson said the country's traditional culture had lofty values which could mitigate the negative effects of globalisation and preserve the moral fibre of the youth. He noted that morality in Africa, which has its root in religion regulate the conduct of the people and help them to achieve social harmony and peace for the good of society. Osabarima Kwaw Entsie 11, Omanhene of Mpohor Traditional Area, who spoke on "Sustenance of the Local Language Usage: The Youth Factor" urged the youth to study master and preserve their mother tongue for posterity. 4 Dec. 09
