The outgoing Commonwealth Secretary-General, Patricia Scotland KC, Baroness Scotland of the United Kingdom, has expressed confidence in Ghana’s Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey in her new role as the Commonwealth Secretary-General.
According to Patricia, she is delighted to hand over the baton to the current Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration in Ghana after her selection for the position.
In a social media post, she stated, "It is my honour to pass the baton to my dear sister, the Hon. Shirley @AyorkorBotchwey, who will succeed me as the next Commonwealth Secretary-General. She will be uniquely blessed, as I have been, to hold this office and serve our precious Commonwealth.”
Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey has been selected for the position of Secretary-General of the Commonwealth at the 2024 Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on October 25, 2024.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey, currently the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana, as the incoming Secretary-General of the Commonwealth,” a post shared on X by the official handle of the Secretariat, @commonwealthsec, read.
