The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has expressed his displeasure over the conduct of his opponent and incumbent Member of Parliament for the area, Lydia Seyram Alhassan.

According to John Dumelo, it is offensive and against electoral rules for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary candidate to share what is suspected to be food packs to persons waiting in line to cast their ballots in the ongoing Special Voting.

“Why are you sharing food to the people in the queue? Why are you doing that? Why, as for us, we can’t share? We can share. If they want me to share, I will also share, but let us respect the rules of the Electoral Commission. Don’t share anything with the people in the queue who have not voted yet.

"You are sharing food, and we don’t know what is in it. And yet you are sharing it with the people who have not voted yet. What kind of stupidity is this? Why do they think we can’t do the same? We can do the same and even worse. They shouldn’t even try us,” he fumed.

Ahead of the December 7, 2024, presidential and parliamentary elections, the Electoral Commission of Ghana is conducting a Special Voting exercise for members of the media, security services, and officers of the Commission.

The Special Voting exercise was initially scheduled to take place across 328 centres nationwide, but it has been rescheduled for voters in the Western and Eastern regions following the recall of ballots for the two regions.

As a result, the Special Voting exercise in the Western and Eastern regions was postponed to Thursday, December 5, 2024.

A total of 131,478 voters, representing 0.007 percent of the total registered voter population of 18,741,159, are expected to participate in the Special Voting exercise.

Monday’s exercise began at 0700 hours and is expected to end at 1700 hours.
