The Deputy Campaign Chairman of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akomea, disclosed that his party realised they had lost the 2024 general elections about six hours after the polls closed on December 7, 2024.

According to Nana Akomea, the party's robust internal collation system allowed them to understand the electoral verdict well before the official announcement by the Electoral Commission.

"I would like to commend our collation officials led by Joe Anokye. They did fantastic work. By 11 PM – 11:30 PM, we knew we had lost. The system they set up provided us with updates every twenty minutes," he stated on the December 11, 2024, edition of Peace FM’s Kokrokoo.

He revealed that the NPP was initially in the lead during the collation but realised they had lost as they received results from about twenty thousand polling stations out of the over forty thousand nationwide.

"We started off leading. By the time we had results from around two thousand five hundred polling stations, we were ahead. However, by the time we reached about eight thousand polling stations, the tide had turned against us, and it never shifted back in our favor. By 11:30, we knew we had lost," he said.

He explained that the details from the internal collation formed the basis for the early concession speech made by the NPP's flagbearer, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.

In the 2024 presidential race, former President Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, emerged victorious with 56.55% of the total valid votes, defeating 12 other candidates.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the ruling New Patriotic Party came in second with 41.61% of the total valid votes cast.
