Who Leads PNC in 2016…

Hassan Ayariga Or Edward Mahama?

Even before the Peoples National Convention (PNC) conclude electing its constituency and regional officers ahead of the party's national delegates congress in August, names of party stalwarts likely to contest various national executive positions including that for the flag bearer, have started popping up.

Though the party is yet to open nominations, some heavyweights of the PNC who are upbeat about occupying the Abavana Junction head office of the party, have started subtle but strategic campaigns in order to grab the positions at stake.
The National Standing Committee of the party recently announced August 14-16, 2015 as congress date to elect 17 national executives and a flag bearer who will prosecute the party's 2016 campaign with the hope of getting the keys to the Flagstaff House.

The positions attracting the fiercest contest ahead of the August 14-15 congress in Wa is the National Chairman position and the Presidential Candidate slot.

The flag bearer post, party insiders say, is likely to see a keen contest between the 2012 presidential candidate of the PNC, Hassan Ayariga and four time presidential candidate, Dr Edward Nasugri Mahama

Although Hassan Ayariga has early this year openly declared his intention to seek the mandate of the party to lead its 2016 battle against the other political parties, Dr Edward Mahama has on numerous occasions declined to confirm or deny whether he would contest for the flag bearer position.

However, sources close to the four-time failed presidential candidate told The aL-hAJJ that Dr Edward Mahama is oiling his political guns to launch a spirited comeback in 2016 to lead the PNC to victory.

Early this year, outgoing National Youth Organizer of the party, Abu Ramadan, who has declared his intension to contest the National Organizer post, hinted of Dr Mahama's comeback, saying that he will be more than welcome to contest on the party’s ticket again in 2016.

On the other hand, incumbent chairman and veteran politician, Alhaji Ahmed Ramadan, is under fire as four party stalwarts, including two members of the current national executives and two senior members of the party have started moves to unseat him.

The four are the party's General Secretary, Bernard Mornah; a three-time former PNC Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga and currently the National Treasurer of the party, David Apasera; a former National Executive Committee member, Abubakar Sadiq Kwashie Ebla and a leading member of the party, David Nabi.

The General Secretary position is being contested by Mr Emmanuel Wilson and Atik Mohammed, both leading members of the party, whose campaign teams have started pasting their posters ahead of the August congress.

The 2012 parliamentary candidate of the PNC for the Tamale South constituency Mr Alidu Mohammed Nasir -Deen, has stuck out his neck to battle one Eugene Tamado Koffikan Bashiru for the National Youth Organizer position.

Miss Janet Nabila, the incumbent National Women Organiser of the party is also reported to have expressed her preparedness to seek re-election to complete the good work she has started.
