The people of Brong Ahafo Region, are still struggling to come to terms as to why Hon.Kwadwo Ajei-Darko, MP for Sunyani West, and former Local government Minister, was dropped by the President in the latter's new ministerial nominations, for his second-term in office.
Seen as one of the finest politicians to emerge from the Brong Ahafo Region, Mr.Adjei-Darko was hailed as the darling Minister by the people of the Region and many therefore, see it as very strange, the decision of President Kuffour to drop such a political heavyweight.
Hon.Adjei-Darko, was the most visible politician, very accessible, hard working, development-oriented, vocal, always defending his party and the president on radio, it was shocking not to see his name among the list of the newly nominated ministers, says a defeated NDC parliamentary candidate.
Mr. Adjei Darko may not be an indispensable material for the President and the NPP, but his demise seems to have raised eye-brows, with many linking it with the fact that he was becoming too popular at the expense of his colleague politicians.
In fact, before the 2004 presidential and parliamentary elections, the Sunyani West MP had become the bench mark, for which every Member of Parliament in the Brong Ahafo Region was measured. The exploits of Hon.Adjei Darko endeared him to many people in the region who saw him as a shining example for politicians in Brong Ahafo. It is therefore strange, that the President could drop him. After President Kuffour had announced the creation of new Districts, the Minister's negotiation skills were brought to bare, as he quickly moved into areas where the people felt let down by the President.
Although Mr.Adjei-Darko remains tight-lipped over the decision to drop him, he has been consistent in understanding the position of the president." the president knows best, u know it's always difficult to be the Coach of Real Madrid" he says, philosophically linking the position of President Kuffour to the Coach of Star-studded Real Madrid soccer team.
Can someone tell us the criteria for renomination of a Minister?
