Ghana in recent times had to urgently train security protection personnel to offer security protection at International Conferences, for visiting heads of State, including the new Liberian administration, a development which informed the importation of some packets of ammunition to make for a shortfall required in the training programmes.
This explanation was contained in a reaction from official sources to the recent concerns raised by the Socialist Forum of Ghana about what it alleged was the importation of some ammunition into the country by the present administration.
According to the allegations the weapons and ammunitions could have been imported for some sinister political objectives.
Explaining further, the statement observed that 133 packets of ammunition were imported for the training programmes and that these were taken delivery of on November 12th 2003.
The ammunitions were cleared by retired officers of the Ghana Armed Forces who have been properly employed by the Office of the President engaged as training officers.
