Why I Served Under NDC - NPP Aspirant

A journalist, aspiring to contest next year’s parliamentary election on NPP ticket, says he accepted to serve as the District Chief Executive for Jomoro under the NDC because the district assembly concept is non-partisan and also because of his moral and national duty top serve his people and country. Mr. Thomas Ekye Kwesi, formerly with the Information Services Department (ISD), told a press conference at Takoradi that he is a thorough-bred NPP member whose commitment and loyalty to the party is firm and solid.

He had called the press conference to establish his "correct political identity", party membership and to dispel rumours that he is a member of the NDC" and therefore not fit to contest on NPP ticket.

Describing the rumours as "unfounded, baseless and vicious", Mr. Kwesi, who was removed from office on an NDC orchestrated vote of no confidence, declared: "The fact that I served as a District Chief Executive in the NDC government did not automatically make me an NDC member," and added " I have been a member of the NPP all my life and will continue to do so throughout my life".

Mr. Kwesi regretted that his political opponents had resorted to lies and vicious propaganda in an attempt to destroy him and put unnecessary impediments in the way of his genuine desire to serve his constituency and the nation.

He warned them to stop that dirty propaganda against him.

Announcing that he has duly registered to contest on the ticket of the NPP for the Jomoro constituency, Mr. Kwasi declared his determination to take the seat from the NDC in 2004.

He said his knowledge and familiarity with the politics and needs of the constituency put him in a favourable position to serve the best interest of his people.

Mr. Kwasi said he cherished the NPP’s philosophy of liberal democracy and rule of law which have won the confidence of Ghanaians.

According to him, he and the NDC "are so diametrically opposed to each other that no amount of linkages can foster any unity between us".

Mr. Kwesi recalled the injustices he suffered at the hands of the NDC during his brief period in office as DCE but declared that he had forgiven all the perpetrators in the true spirit of national reconciliation.
