The Omanhene of the Komenda Traditional Area, Nana Kojo Kru II has admitted he ordered for the rejection of the coffin during the burial service of a deceased person at Komenda Dompoase in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem(KEEA) District of the Central Region last weekend.
According to him, as the chief of Komenda and a relative to the deceased, he realized that the widow who has a son with the dead man divorced him prior to his unfortunate passing but was bent on creating confusion thereby erected her canopies away from the funeral grounds to hold a parallel funeral ceremony.
He explained that her behavior was contrary to the norms and traditions of the community and therefore he had to order the leaders of the family to reject the coffin which was abandoned in the middle of the town
In a telephone interview with MyNewsGh.com, Nana Kru said since the deceased had a child with the widow there was the need for the widow and her family members to comport themselves join the burial service of the deceased rather than try to create scenes.
“I sent someone twice to ask the family of the widow to move and join them at the funeral grounds and waited for about 45 minutes but to no avail. That was when I instructed the deceased’s family not to accept the coffin which was bought by the family and return to the said family since they refused to join the burial service. Even me as Omanhene of Komenda stopped all my schedules and joined the burial service, how much more you a widow” he fumed.
He added that, the family of the deceased went in for a new coffin to bury their relation and asked the family of the widow to come for their coffin but refused and was left it in the middle of the town.
The opinion leader at the Dompoase, Prince Ekow Freeman, observed that the abandoned coffin at Dompoase has caused fear and panic in the community as a result.
In his view, the rejection of the coffin is a total disgrace to the deceased’s family since it has never happened in the community explaining that the separation of the widow’s family was due to the collection of levies from family and friends to settle some debts.
MyNewsGh.com earlier this week reported of how confusion over the burial of the deceased person at Komenda Dompoase in the Komenda-Edina-Eguafo-Abrem(KEEA) municipality of the Central Region last weekend led to a coffin being abandoned in the middle of the community for days.
The coffin which was supposed to be used in burying the deceased person was left in the middle of the town for days after deceased’s family refused to bury their relative with it because it was coming from the widow.
Checks, however, reveal that the coffin has since been taken from where it was abandoned but it is not known who might do that where it was destined.
