On the August 6, 2024, episode of Peace FM’s Kokrokoo, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, made a comparison between the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, and the late statesman JB Danquah, who was the Eastern Regional chairman of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC).
Speaking during a panel discussion, Pratt explained that JB Danquah was a former Eastern Regional chairman of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC), while Wontumi is the current Ashanti Regional chairman of the NPP.
He highlighted the similarities in their roles and traits.
“I have said before that JB Danquah is like Chairman Wontumi. The context is, if you look at JB Danquah’s official designation, he was the chairman of the Eastern Region, and if you look at Wontumi’s official designation, he is the chairman of the Ashanti Region. So, in terms of the official hierarchies, they are comparable,” he said.
However, this claim did not sit well with his fellow panel member Nana Akomea, the Managing Director of Intercity STC, who disputed Pratt’s assertion.
Akomea argued that if Pratt wanted to compare official portfolios, he should have used the current Eastern Regional Chairman instead of Wontumi.
Nana Akomea disagreed, claiming that comparing JB Danquah to Wontumi was inappropriate and that a more fitting comparison would be with the current Eastern Regional Chairman.
Pratt countered by saying that if Akomea does not agree with the comparison, it implies a lack of respect for Wontumi as someone who can’t be compared to JB Danquah.
