Why harass innocent people but refuse to arrest Kweku Boahen – Former NDC MP

The former Member of Parliament (MP) for Builsa North Constituency, Timothy Ataboadey Awontirim is wondering why the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government is failing to arrest the former Deputy Director of Communications for the National Democratic Congress(NDC), Kweku Boahen but goes about harassing innocent people over galamsey.

The former lawmaker lambasted the NPP government over their refusal to arrest Kweku Boahen who has been accused of allegedly empowering galamseyers.

A video that resurfaced online captured Mr Boahen in the run-up to the 2020 election campaigning at a galamsey site and assuring a group of illegal miners of the NDC and Mahama-led administration’s commitment to strengthen their operation.

In a discussion on Joy Prime’s morning show, Timothy Atabaodey Awontirim questioned the ruling government as to why Kweku Boahen was walking freely even after being captured in a video campaigning at a galamsey site.

“Kweku Boahen was captured on video promising galamseyers he will allow them to continue mining when he is voted into power. But you haven’t arrested him? You are in power, when the sources of the state are in your hands? The NPP uses the security to attack and harass innocent people and Kweku Boahen is walking freely,” he said.

The former MP further blamed the NPP for being behind the deteriorating state of the water bodies and the lands.

“Even our colonial masters who were mining for gold during the colonial days did not destroy the water bodies like the NPP have destroyed them. The forest reserves were left intact by the colonial masters but today we have a government that is only interested in destroying the forest reserves, our lands, and water bodies. They don’t care who gets affected. The president put his presidency on the line. In other countries, he should have resigned by now,” Timothy Awontirim added.
