Citizen Ato Dadzie, General Secretary of the Great Consolidated Popular Party (GCPP), has raised concerns over the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) enthusiasm for Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh as their running mate for the upcoming December 7 general election.

Mr. Dadzie highlighted the apparent contradiction in the NPP’s stance, recalling that not long ago, some members of the NPP described the Vice President's position as insignificant.

This view was notably expressed when the current Vice President and now NPP flagbearer, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, referred to himself as merely a "driver’s mate" to the President, emphasizing that he would pursue his own vision if elected President.

Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show hosted by Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Appea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM on Monday, July 8, 2024, Mr. Dadzie questioned the current praise for Dr. Prempeh, popularly known as NAPO, as Dr. Bawumia’s running mate.

“It beats my imagination why these same people are here praising a person who is vying for the same useless position,” he remarked.

Mr. Dadzie questioned what Dr. Prempeh brings to the table when the ultimate responsibility lies with the President.

He criticized the NPP for touting Dr. Prempeh’s candidacy, suggesting that as Vice President, he would not have the power to effect significant change.

“So why tout somebody who cannot effect change as Vice President?” he asked.

He further queried what makes Napo exceptional to warrant the high praise from the NPP, suggesting that the party’s attempts to promote Dr. Prempeh might be overstated.
