Doris Yeboah, a trader at the Agbogbloshie Market in Accra, shared why she chose to pursue business over continuing her education.

Although it wasn't a deliberate choice, she had to decide her path in life due to insufficient support from her parents for schooling.

Doris explained that her father passed away when she was very young, leaving her in the care of her mother, who also couldn't provide the necessary support.

In an interview with GhanaWeb’s Victoria Kyei Baffour on the Everyday People programme, Doris mentioned that she completed her education at the basic six level due to financial difficulties.

Unable to further her education, she had no choice but to venture into business, taking goods on credit and making payments after selling them.

“Times were very hard for my mother, so I couldn't attend school. I decided to get some items and sell them at the market. Back then, the market was thriving. I had dreams of becoming a nurse, teacher, or lawyer, but my mother couldn't support me, and my father passed away when I was very young. I had to carve out my own path. So, I started taking goods on credit to sell at the market and paid for them later. I continued this until I had my children," she narrated in Twi.

Meanwhile, she has managed to build her own house by selling 'kontomire' and is also single-handedly supporting her children through school.
