Winneba hold carol night to foster peace and unity

Winneba (C/R), Dec. 20, GNA -The Effutu Municipal Local Council of Churches in collaboration with Winneba Peace Initiative has organised a carol night to foster peace and unity among the people.

It was under the theme “The birth of Christ, Our hope for peace and development” and was attended by singing groups from various churches and a cross-section of people in the area.

Heads of Department, Traditional leaders, members of Asafo companies and Assembly members also attended.

Various speakers at the function called for unity among the people to facilitate the development of the area. They emphasised that peace was essential because without it no development could take place.

They said it was only when Ghanaians buried their differences, and see themselves as one family that they could work towards the development and growth of the nation, adding that it was about time they gave peace a chance”.

The Very Rev. Eldad Bonney, Presiding Member of Effutu Municipal Assembly said without forgiveness it would be hard to achieve peace.

The Rev. Francis Odoom, Chairman of the Council of Churches, appealed to people to stand firm in the Lord for with Him all things are possibly.

Mr Alex Bonney, Chairman for the Peace initiative said Winneba needed total peace for total development and hoped that with understanding and forgiveness the town would enjoy peace.

Mr Mike Hammah, Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for the area, who chaired the programme expressed his appreciation to the organisers and asked them to periodically organised such programmes to foster unity among the people.

He reiterated that the government led by President John Evans Atta Mills was commitment to ensure a peaceful general election in 2012 and called on the people especially religious bodies to continue to pray for peace in the co-untry.
