Chief Executive of the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo), Jonathan Amoako-Baah says there’s nothing impossible under the sun that women cannot achieve.
Speaking at a USAID-GRIDCo Mentoring Session for Female Science and Technology students in Tema, he said with determination and hard work, women will continue to show the way in society.
He underscored his point with the lyrics of a duet by James Brown and Luciano Pavarotti, "It is a Man's world but it would be nothing without a woman or a girl, " - reflecting how the progress of global societies is not attainable without the contribution of women.
The Mentoring Session was in commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, which fell on Sunday March 8, 2020. The programme also formed part of the Engendering Utilities Partnership Programme between GRIDCo and USAID, which aims at encouraging female participation in Engineering careers in order to enrich the workforce in the various utility companies in Ghana.
Addressing the participants, Director of Human Resources at GRIDCo and Chairman for the occasion, Wing Commander (Rtd) Samuel Allotey, noted that the International Women’s Day was worth commemorating annually. He praised the partnership between GRIDCo and USAID; and added that the International Men’s Day will also be given equal recognition on November 19, 2020.
Among the highlights of the programme was a mentoring session with some selected female Engineers of the power company and a tour of the company’s Systems Control Center and Volta Sub-station for the students. The students were drawn from four schools in Tema – SOS Hermann-Gmeiner, Chemu Senior High, Tema Senior High and Tema Technical Institute.
