On June 15, 2024, in Accra, Women in Water Sanitation and Climate Change teamed up with various institutions as their partners to undertake a cleanup exercise to ensure a cleaner ocean environment.

Sandra S. Kyere, Executive Director of Women in Water, Sanitation, and Climate Change, in an interview with the media, said that they collaborated with Tullow Ghana Limited, Modec Production Service JV Limited, University of Ghana Oceans Governance Project, and the Society of Petroleum Engineers to clean up Laboma Beach as part of World Ocean Day.

She mentioned that there is a lot of waste at the beach, and the source of this waste is from the upstream channel through the Kpeshie Lagoon towards the ocean. Therefore, they were encouraged to go there with their partners to clean the beach in order to make it clean and also ensure a cleaner ocean and environment.

Madam Sandra added that it’s a continuous process and this cleanup is a form of awareness creation for the general public about the need not to dump rubbish indiscriminately in order to reduce waste pollution in our water bodies and communities.
