Accra, April 29, GNA- The Food and Drugs Board, on Tuesday, advised the public to desist from patronising "Wonderful Medicine", "Faith Power Medicine" and "Mame Koryoe Herbal Mixture Wonderful Medicine", which have been found to contain substances harmful to human health.
A statement issued by the FDB said the herbal preparations, marketed for the treatment of skin diseases, asthma and other diseases contain high quantities of brake-fluid, sulphathiazole (M&B760) and glycerine.
"Brake fluid is a poisonous chemical, which when ingested or applied to the skin can cause various degrees of damage to internal organs," the FDB explained. "It is, therefore, not used as an active or non-active pharmaceutical agent."
The products, the FDB noted are usually sold at Asesewa, Krobo Odumase, Akuse, Agomeda, Agomenya, Somanya and their surrounding areas. It assured the public that it has mounted a high Post Market Surveillance System and Quality Control Screening of all products said to be herbal to expose fake ones on the market.
The Board urged the public to report suspicious products to its offices in Accra, Tema, Takoradi, Kumasi and Bolgatanga.
It further warned those who use chemicals and orthodox drugs to concoct creams, ointments and other mixtures and label them as herbal drugs to stop the dangerous practice.
