Leading figures of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) from the Ashanti Region called on the Presidential Candidate of the party, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, to commiserate with him over the party’s defeat in the 2024 election.

A viral video clip of the meeting showed the moment the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the party, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, alias Chairman Wontumi, and the running mate of Bawumia, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO), expressed the pain they felt over the party’s defeat.

Wontumi urged the vice president and members of the party to take solace in the word of God over the defeat they suffered.

He asserted that the good book of Christians, the Bible, tells that in life there is always a time for joy and a time for sadness; adding that both the moments of joy and sadness come from God and must be accepted.

“This is the will of God, he knows why this happened. We can’t fight him, we can’t do anything. We know that at the right time he would make us happy for the sake of you and your running mate,” he said.

Wontumi took the opportunity to commend Dr. Bawumia for choosing his running mate, NAPO, from the Ashanti Region.

He said that the NPP presidential candidate’s decision to pick his running mate from the Ashanti Region was unprecedented and an honour to the region.

NAPO, on his part, indicated that the party’s defeat in the election was painful.

He commended the vice president for agreeing to meet the executives of the party despite the fact that they were all in pain.
