Demolition of old structures at the dilapidated Flagstaff House in Accra has started to pave the way for the construction of a new presidential complex.
The Ghanaian Times yesterday morning witnessed old buildings and trees being cleared on the large tract of land that will house the complex.
Shapoorji Pallonji (SP) of India are the contractors for the project, which is being financed with a 30-million dollar loan from the Government of India.
Actual construction is expected to start as soon as the clearing of the site is completed in the next few weeks. According to the Ghanaian Times, the project will have facilities to accommodate the presidential and vice presidential offices and some cabinet ministers, including the office of the chief of staff as well as the president?s official residence.It is expected to be completed within 18 months from actual the date of commencement of construction. The construction of the presidential complex will enable the machinery of government to be centralised and facilitate liaison between the president and his cabinet.
