Workers advised to invest in the stock market

Atebubu (B/A), Nov. 12, GNA - A Deputy Minister of Information, Mr Steve Asamoah-Boateng, has urged the leadership of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) to impress it upon workers to embrace long-term savings. He said stock brokering was one of the few areas in the financial business that workers could exploit to make long-term savings to prepare for their future.

The Deputy Minister was addressing the staff of the Atebubu District Assembly and heads of decentralized departments at Atebubu on Monday to round off a seven-day tour of the Brong-Ahafo Region. "Savings through the stock market attract higher interest rates than the normal banking system," he told them.

He expressed regret that his tour of the Central, Western, Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo had revealed that a lot of workers were not aware that the stock exchange was another source of making savings.

Mr Asamoah-Boateng urged the staff of the national secretariat of the TUC to tailor its programmes to help workers to become abreast with the stock market and advised union officials to embody such education in their meetings at the national, regional and district levels.
