Working Women Attend Trade Union Seminar

Sunyani, (Brong Ahafo Region) 13 Sept.,

The acting General Secretary of the Public Services Workers' Union (PSWU) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC), Mr. A.T.D. Okine, has called on women to be active at their workplaces and contribute effectively to decision-making. He was addressing a day's seminar organised by the PSWU for 30 women workers drawn from the various district assemblies in the Brong Ahafo Region. The seminar was under the theme: "Towards the realisation of women participation in trade unions". Mr. Okine urged women workers to strive to learn hard and compete with their male counterparts in all academic fields of endeavour and also participate actively in community programmes. He stressed the need for male heads of departments to cooperate with and listen to decisions and opinions of women working under them to promote efficiency in their organisations. Miss Anastasia Adubea, regional chairperson of Women's Union of PSWU advised women workers to avoid lateness, absenteeism and laziness since such practices would encourage men to relegate them to the background. She said women should not exempt themselves from social obligations but contribute towards development programmes. They should also be law-abiding.
