The Works and Housing ministry is to embark on a major review of all contracts awarded in the sector by the previous National Democratic Congress government.
The move comes after a tour of some projects across the country by the sector minister revealed that several contractors are yet to be paid despite completing projects.
Speaking in an interview with Starr News’ Regina Borley Bortey, Deputy Works and Housing minister Freda Prempeh said the review is to establish the terms and conditions which guided the awards of such contracts.
“It looks like the previous government has left the present government with too much debts to pay…we are talking about millions of Ghana cedis.
“We want to look at the contracts again…we want to look at what went into it, like the payment schedule and if government has not been able to fulfil its part of the schedule or if the contractors were not able to complete on time.”
The deputy minister assured that monies owed some contractors will be paid immediately their contracts are reviewed by the government.
“Some of them have submitted their certificates and I believe that very soon some of them will receive their payment.”
