Workshop for NFED facilitators underway

Nkoranza (B/A), April 27, GNA - A two week training workshop aimed at equipping 25 newly recruited facilitators of the Non-Formal Education Division (NFED) with requisite knowledge and skills to enable them to handle adult learners is underway at Nkoranza in Brong Ahafo. The workshop will also help the facilitators, selected from the various communities and religious groups in Nkoranza District, to lead the learners to read, write and calculate figures.

Topics being treated include community participation and ownership, the roles and responsibilities of the facilitator, the characteristics of the adult learner, class organisation and management, facilitation techniques as well as gender and development.

Mr Amankona Diawuo, member of the NFED central training team in Sunyani commended the participants for their voluntary spirit to help promote the Programme.

He urged them to pay great attention to the lessons at the workshop so that they could go back and handle their classes effectively. Mr Diawuo asked them to work hard to turn out more functional literate adults to justify the huge sums of money that the Government and the World Bank had sunk into the programme.

Mr Evans Kwame Osei, District Director of the Division advised the facilitators to live above reproach "as role models" to win the respect and confidence of the people.

He urged them to liaise with community leaders to win their support in the promotion of the programme in the District. Mr Samuel Owusu Adjei, District Training Officer, said officials from the Non-Formal Education Division would be visiting their classes to offer support.

Mr. Akwasi Darko Poku, District Officer in-charge of Income-Generating Activities urged the facilitators to organise learners to undertake income generating projects such as soap making, edible oil extraction and gari processing.
