Workshop of dissemination of AIDS information underway

Ajumako (C/R), Sept. 13, GNA - A ten-day workshop on the dissemination of information on AIDS is underway at Ajumako in the Central Region.

The workshop, which will adopt the "Stepping Stone approach to information dissemination on the HIV/AIDS pandemic," was organised by International Aid Alliance a non-governmental organisation based in Accra and sponsored by Action Aid Ghana.

Mr Alex Ofori, Director, International Aid Alliance, said by the stepping stone approach the educators would not only disseminate information, but would also encourage behavioural changes and the abandonment of some unhealthy practices that promote the spread of the disease.

He identified poverty and polygamy as some of the causes of the rapid spread of the HIV/AIDS and advised the people, especially the youth to undertake economic ventures to improve their standard of living.

Ajumako Assembly to support female science students

Ajumako (C/R), Sept. 13, GNA - The Ajumako-Enyan- Essiam District Assembly is to use part of its Common Fund to support girls who pursue science and technical programmes in second cycle and tertiary institutions.

Mr Emmanuel Baisie, Deputy District Co-ordinating Director, announced this at the closing ceremony of a week-long Science, Technology and Mathematics Education (STME) clinic for 50 girls and 10 boys drawn from some selected junior secondary and senior secondary schools in the district on Friday.

He commended the participants and urged them to take advantage of the numerous educational opportunities and refrain from laziness, drug abuse and sexual promiscuity to improve their social standing.

Mr Joseph Appiah, District STME organiser said the participants engage d in the study of science, mathematics and computer training. They were also engage in science practical exercises at the Cape Coast University science laboratory and undertook a field trips. Prizes were awarded to student who excelled in a quiz programme.
