Workshop on business and SME reporting held in Accra

An Ecobank sponsored workshop organized by the Journalist for Business Advocacy (JBA) to educate journalists on Business and Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) reporting was held in Accra.

Mr Theophilus Yartey, Editor of Graphic Business, said reporting business could be the best thing that could happen to a journalist, but journalists should be circumspect in their reportage.

He advised journalists to give vivid explanation to business terms in order to make it easy for readers to understand.

“You (Journalists) should desist from copy-cutting into your stories, make sure you have clear understanding of every business terminology you use in writing your stories example, Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Inflation etc. he added.”

Madam Habiba Sumani a representative from The National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) said journalists play a very important role in promoting SMEs.

She said some challenges SMEs face include finance, education and even how it is a male dominated sector.

Mr Fred Avornyo, Chief Executive Officer of Elded Consult, said journalists, in telling their stories, must focus on the positive impact of SMEs on the country.
