This year's World Disaster Day celebration in the Asante Akyem South District has taken place at Amanfrom, a farming community. The ceremony was preceded by the planting of tree seedlings provided by the Juaso District Forestry Office. The District Chief Executive, Mr.. James Boadi-Danquah, urged the communities to plant more trees to serve as windbreaks. He mentioned indiscriminate tree felling and bush burning as some of the factors contributing to land degradation and urged the people to be vigilant and expose those involved in such bad practices. Mr.. Boadi-Danquah asked the people to be more concerned about how to prevent disasters. The Assemblymember for the area, Mr.. Nelson Agyei, appealed to the government to repair the Atiemo-Nkwanta and Banfo-Asuboi-Bokro roads for smooth transportation. He also asked the District Assembly to rehabilitate schools in the area. The Nifahene of Banso, Nana Adu Gyekye, who presided, appealed to the District Assembly to help the people in their development programs.
