World Food Safety Day 2024

World Food Safety Day is celebrated on June 7 every year World Food Safety Day is celebrated on June 7 every year

As we celebrate World Food Safety 2024, Ghanaians are facing a challenge as to how safe our food is. Recent events in the country have made it a challenge for food consumption in the country to be deemed safe.

The CPA is referring to the abundance of galamsey operations that have affected
our water bodies and also pesticides that are used in our farmlands.

In the inner cities, food products like vegetables that are grown are being
watered by sewage water and gutter water. These practices, if not stopped, will
make our food not deemed safe.

Recently, fruits that are grown on top of trees like pawpaw, banana, mangoes, and avocado pear have even been affected with food safety. Gone were the days when you could smell these fruits from afar, but they are no longer there.

The less we talk about pineapple, the better, as farmers are now applying carbide and other unauthorized methods of growing it. All these practices mentioned pose a threat to our food security as we celebrate World Food Safety Day.

We urge the government and all institutions mandated to see to the safety of our
food to take the necessary steps to stop these bad practices of growing our food
in Ghana. We wish all Ghanaians a happy World Food Safety Day!
