As the world celebrates the importance of milk as a global food, Founding Member of the Ghana Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, Helena Nti has educated Ghanaians on the need to take in milk to stay healthy.
Giving an insight on GhanaWeb, she noted that milk; be it breastmilk, skimmed, evaporated, or other types of milk, are generally very nutritious.
Meanwhile, the breastmilk, she highlighted, is the best for babies to aid in their growth, development and protection against diseases.
Here are some nutritional benefits of drinking milk:
Calcium:.
This nutrient is important for the development and maintenance of strong bones and teeth.
Protein
It is for the building the body and repairs worn out tissues. She explained that milk plays a role in wound healing.
She also added we need milk to help build the immune system; proteins play a role in building the immune system”.
Vitamin B, B12
These vitamins aid in the maintenance of brain function and for healthy red blood cells. It also helps build our blood level and also prevents anaemia.
It is great to have a glass of milk a day. Consumers are however advised to go for low fat, low sugar milk.
Meanwhile, persons with chronic diseases like diabetes, who wish to drink milk should do so in moderation, and most importantly, they should also consult their nutritionist.
