Zebilla, (UE), July 22, GNA - World Vision Ghana, a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) operating in the Upper East Region, on Tuesday presented 2,100 grafted mango seedlings to 11 schools in Zebilla in the Bawku West District.
Mr Bernard Kpare, Bawku West Area Development Programme Manager of the NGO, advised the schools to plant the trees and nurture them to enable them to survive. He noted that most of the trees had several benefits including bearing fruits for consumption and cash crops to be used to take care of the pupils.
Mr Kpare advised the school authorities and parents to plant trees to serve as wind breaks and stressed the need to inculcate tree planting habits into the children.
He expressed worry about recent climatic changes in the country and appealed to environmental experts to design pre-emptive programmes to reduce its effect. Mr Kpare said apart from his outfit embarking on agriculture and health programmes to address the needs of the people, it had offered sponsorship packages and donated assorted books to a number of schools in the district. Mr Enoch Atampugre, Headmaster of the Timonde Primary School, thanked World Vision Ghana for the gesture and pledged that the schools would plant the seedlings and take good care of them. Mr David Baba, Assistant Director of Education, entreated parents to invest in their children's education and said it was the best legacy they could bequeath to them. 22 July 09
