Accra, March 20, GNA - Guinness Ghana Breweries Limited (GGBL) under its Water of Life programme, is to provide good drinking water to more than 300,000 people this year.
The company had so far provided boreholes for needy communities in the Upper East, Upper West, Volta, Western, Central and Eastern regions. Mr Edwin Baffour, Head of Corporate Relations of the company, made this known at the end of the first Water Day Walk in Accra on Saturday. The walk, which was organised by Fitness First Club in collaboration with GGBL, formed part of activities marking the celebration of this year's World Water Day, which falls on Monday, March 22 It started from McCarthy Hills to Mallam through some principal streets of the capital and ended at the Dansoman Keep Fit Club grounds. Mr Baffour said it was the policy of the company to support the communities in which it operates. He said the event was also to create awareness of the need for the people to know the importance of water, adding that the provision of good drinking water would go a long way to improve the living conditions of Ghanaians. The Head of Corporate Relations called on other corporate bodies to support the government in the provision of good drinking water for Ghanaians. Mrs Faustina Asare Bediako, Women's Organiser of the Fitness First Club, thanked GGBL for supporting the programme and expressed the hope that the walk would be an annual affair. About 30 keep fit clubs drawn from the Greater Accra Region, took part in the 10-kilometre walk. 20 March 10
