Legal Practioner, Dr Maurice Ampaw has slammed embattled businessman Alfred Agbesi Woyome for engaging the media while he has a pending case at the Supreme Court describing it as a useless press conference.
Mr Alfred Abesi Woyome who’s being tried in court for a wrongful GHC 51.2 judgment debt paid to him by the state on Friday held a press briefing where he made all sorts of allegations, including claiming that former Attorney-General, Martin Amidu, was sacked by late President Atta Mills because he tried to beat the president at a meeting.
He also accused the Supreme Court of persecuting him saying the apex court of the land erred in its ruling allowing Mr Amidu to orally examine him concerning the GHc51.2million judgment debt paid by the State.
According to him, he is “determined to pay the money back”, adding that he is doing so “under duress.”
“I am paying back the money under duress. I feel that my rights are been trampled upon and feel persecuted,” he noted.
The Supreme court presided over by Justice Anin Yeboah on November 16, granted an application by Martin Amidu to allow him to examine Alfred Woyome orally over how he spent the controversial GHS 51 million paid to him as judgment debt.
According to the judge, Martin Amidu has the locus to examine Woyome because it’s been 2 years since the court ordered Attorney General to retrieve the money but to no avail hence Mr Amidu has the right to ensure prosecution.
However ahead of the oral examination scheduled for to November 24, Mr Woyome at the press conference stated that he believes Martin Amidu is being used by certain unseen forces to muddy the waters.
But speaking to Kasapa News, Lawyer Dr Maurice Ampaw, stated that Mr Woyome should not waste the ears of Ghanaians with press conferences when he’s still in court and rather makes sure he pays back the monies as he’s admitted to do.
“Woyome’s press conference on Friday is the most useless press conference I have ever seen in my entire life. When you owe the state and you have such a case in court, you rather rush to the media to prosecute your case. What is the use of the press conference, all the things he’s saying about Martin Amidu, claiming he attempted beating ex President Mills is not important to Ghanaians now, all we need is a refund of our money wrongfully paid him by the state. Whether Martin Amidu is the devil’s incarnate or he has a bad character we don’t care, when he’s done with paying back the money and he feels he has a problem with Amidu he can take him on. For now he should bring back our money,” Dr Maurice Ampaw fumed.
