XCAPE Fun Group, a Non-governmental fun group on social media, has donated clothes and items worth thousands of Ghana Cedis to the Pantang Metal Hospital.

Some of the items donated are food, cartons of drinks, bags of rice, carton of oil, bags of clothes, toilet rolls, and soaps.

The benevolence which is part of the group’s social responsibilities was held at a colourful ceremony to mark the one-year anniversary of the group.

Founder of Xcape Fun Group, Mrs. Kate Jectson Pratt told SVTV Africa, the donation was to show their love for mental healthcare institutions and also indicate their commitment to support for inmates and their wellbeing, which needed urgent attention.

She added that, the organisation mooted the idea because of the deplorable state of the Hospital. Mrs. Pratt appealed to corporate bodies and civil societies to contribute towards the well-being of the inmates.

Receiving on the donation on behalf of the hospital, Madam Lina Anane Abebrese, a DDNS at Patang hospital, expressed their profound gratitude to the group for their kind gesture and assured the group everything brought will be used for its purpose.

She appealed to other NGOs, corporate bodies and other effective support systems in the country to pay much attention to the mental health care of the less privilege in society since government alone cannot do it.

Statistics from the Ghana Health Service showed that in 2018, 41 per cent of Ghanaians have some mental disorders.

The mental healthcare institutions are neglected and led to a situation where the treatment gap for inmates is 98 per cent.
