King and Overlord of Dagbon, Ndan Ya-Naa Abukari II has donated a sum of Gh¢40,000 to support the construction of a Pediatric Complex at the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH).

The donation serves as seed money for the commencement of the project which is expected to improve the provision of child health care and reduce child mortality at the premier health facility in Northern Ghana.

Management of the TTH recently launched a campaign to raise money for the construction of the ultra-modern Pediatric Complex as part of activities marking the celebration of its 50th anniversary.

The self-help project aims to generate resources by soliciting support from the public to build the children’s complex.

Management, led by Chief Executive Officer, Dr Atik Adam was at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi on Saturday to formally inform the Dagbon King about the intended project.

Ndan Ya-Naa who made the cash donation appealed to all Dagombas and residents of the Northern region to contribute towards the construction.

He emphasized the need for residents to support the project, noting that “the hospital can only save our lives if it is well equipped”.

Explaining the need for the Pediatric Center, Prof Alhassan Abdul Mumin, Director of Medical Affairs at the TTH said it was currently challenging to provide pediatric care at the hospital because the “services are scattered”.

Prof Abdul Mumin who is also a Pediatric Specialist said that the construction of the centre will ensure there is a dedicated place to provide all Pediatric services.

“We have staff with various sub-specialities who can provide services to children, what we need is the infrastructure, what we need is the equipment to be able to complete the pediatric services that we have earmarked to provide for our clients” he noted.
