The twenty-six wives of the late Ya- Na Yakubu Andani have appealed to President John Evans Atta Mills to invite the former Interior Minister, Alhaji Malik Yakubu, BNI Commander and the former Northern Region Military Commander for questioning, because they cannot escape blame for their husband’s gruesome murder.
The late Ya-Na’s wives said they are only seeking the truth and justice for the murder of their beloved husband, the Overlord of Dagbon. “Our interest is not whether someone loves the Abudu’s or the Andani’s but to find the killers and punish them. How Can they claim that Ya-Naa died during war when he was murdered. We are begging government to look into the matter so that nothing of that sort would happen in future,’’ they indicated.
They revealed that the severed head of was openly displayed by the perpetrators after the murder. They therefore made a passionate appeal to President Mills to invite the Northern Regional Military Commander, the BNI Commander and Malik Alhassan, who were in-charge of security to help unravel the mystery. “We beg the government to send a delegation to come and investigate what went on,” they pleaded, asking, “How can fourteen people arrested in connection with this barbaric act be set free?”
They disclosed this to the press at Yendi to register their protest and displeasure at the way their husband’s death is being handled.
When asked whether they still grieve over their husband’s death, they all broke into an uncontrollable cry and replied, “It pains us a lot’’, you also know that it is very painful, because when you go back home and you were told that your father had been murdered, you would see how it looked like. What would you say when they were told you he was murdered?”
The leader of the wives told the press that, their husband was not aware of any curfew. “If he knew that he was going to be killed, I don’t think he would sit down to be killed like that, because he is an old man and would have done something. He was sitting there with the children, including some of us and it is only God’s intervention that we escaped the atrocities,” they narrated.
They further disclosed that all of them were in the house when the incident happened, saying information got to them that solders were in town but they did not see them, and it was there that their husband even came out that if it was true they would come to the house.
