Yam Festival Marked In Tatale

Tatale (Northern Region), 3 Oct.,

Mr Asibi Azoko, Zabzugu/Tatale District Co-ordinating Director, has appealed to chiefs in the Northern Region to use festivals as a platform for peace and reconciliation. Addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Tatale to climax their yam festival, Mr Azoko said such festivals must be used to plan development strategies for the communities. The festival, celebrated by the Basares at Tatale, is aimed at pacifying their Gods and ancestors to ensure abundant harvest, good health and prosperity. Mr Azoko said the District Assembly has spent over 130 million cedis on development projects in the Tatale area. They include the provision of electricity poles, building and rehabilitation of schools among others. He commended the Tatale Youth Development Association for revitalising the festival and urged them to lobby investors for the area.
