The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ejisu/Juaben Municipality in the Ashanti region, Yamoah Ponkoh, allegedly caused the arrest of the supervisor of the cocoa mass spraying exercise at Atia near Ejisu, DAILY GUIDE has learnt.
Alex Osei Marfo reportedly stormed the MCE’s office alongside other cocoa mass sprayers to ascertain reports that Hon. Ponkoh was planning to replace them with National Democratic Congress (NDC) faithful.
During the visit, the Ejisu/Juaben MCE misconstrued a certain chemical that Mr. Osei Marfo was holding to be acid.
A source told the paper that Mr. Ponkoh, who was furious, suddenly called for the arrest of Osei Marfo who was allegedly detained for almost one-week.
The source said some weeks ago, the Atia Cocoa Mass Spraying gang, led by Osei Marfo, heard reports that Mr. Ponkoh wanted to replace them with NDC supporters for no apparent reason.
During the meeting with Mr. Ponkoh in his office, a heated debate ensued between members of the agitated cocoa mass spraying group and the Ejisu/Juaben MCE so the meeting ended abruptly.
Some days later, the cocoa mass spraying officers visited Mr. Ponkoh’s office again but chaos erupted when Mr. Ponkoh called for the arrest of their leader.
The Ejisu/Juaben MCE accused Mr. Osei Marfo of attempting to injure him with some chemicals which he suspected to be acid.
DAILY GUIDE gathered that Mr. Osei Marfo was granted bail by a court at Juaben on Monday and ordered to report at the police station daily.
Several attempts by the paper to contact Yamoah Ponkoh proved futile as his mobile phone was switched off.
