Tamale, Nov. 4, GNA - Paul Awuni, 58-year-old clerk of the Yendi Government Hospital is in the grips of the Yendi Police for kidnapping a 10-year-old pupil of T.I. Ahmadiyya Primary School in Yendi.
The victim Imoro Fati, was found with the legs and hands tied with a rope supposedly for ritual purposes.
Awuni allegedly kidnapped the girl at Yendi on 28th of October at about 1330 hours when she was returning from school.
Fati was later found at Sang, near Yendi by Alhassan Salifu, who subsequently reported the incident to the police. Chief Inspector Ebenezer Tetteh, the Northern Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), confirmed the story to GNA in Tamale on Wednesday.
He said the mouth of Imoro Fati was partially sealed and damped at the back of Salifu's house.
Chief Insp. Tetteh said Salifu rescued the victim and sent her to the at the Yendi Government Hospital where Adisah Ziblem was able to identify the victim out.
The Police PRO said that Ziblem saw the accused earlier in the day dragging the victim.
He said the victim after gaining her conscience at the hospital, was able to recall what the accused did to her.
Chief Insp. Tetteh said that when Awuni was arrested he denied the offence and he had been remanded by a circuit court in Yendi.
The Police PRO said medical checks on the victim did not indicate any sexual abuse.
