Yendi, April 04, GNA - The Yendi District Security Committee (DISEC) has assured Heads of Department and residents within the district that Government would provide adequate security during the burial of Ya-Na Yakubu Andani II on April 10 at Yendi. Alhaji Mohammed Habib Tijani, Yendi District Chief Executive gave the assurance in an address read on his behalf when the DISEC met Heads of Decentralised Department to brief them on security situation in the area at Yendi.
Alhaji Tijani appealed to workers to continue with their normal duties during the burial of Ya-Na, adding; "The place is peaceful and there is the need to maintain the peace existing in the area." Alhaji Mohammed Asibi Azonko, Yendi District Coordinating Director, said Government and International Organisations were concerned about the burial and appealed to the public to cooperate with the security during the occasion.
Lieutenant Emmanuel Odoom Essilfie, Second in-charge of the military Detachment expressed appreciation for the efforts made by DISEC to organise a meeting with Heads of Departments.
Lt. Odoom reminded the people that the prevailing peace within the district was not only attained through efforts of the security personnel but with the collaboration of the workers and people in the area. He said as Heads of Departments in discharging their duties, they should also educate their workers and the people about the importance of peace during the burial.
Lt Odoom gave the assurance that the Military was well prepared to provide adequate security and urged Heads of Departments to inform the security whenever they come across any sensitive information. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP)Francis Antwi-Boasiako, Yendi District Divisional Crime officer, said the people of Yendi would make history with burial of the Ya-Na in peace.
ASP Antwi-Boasiako reminded the people that security was very expensive and therefore, necessary to maintain the peace. He announced that additional 700 police personnel would be despatched to beef up security in the district and security barriers would be erected on all roads leading to Yendi.
ASP Antwi-Boasaiko warned the people against attempts to engaging security personnel in unnecessary confrontation because any trouble-shooter arrested during the burial would be prosecuted. He assured the people that there would be enough security at vantage points to protect lives and property.
