A seeming attempt by a National Democratic Congress (NDC) member, Yayra Koku to dim the glowing light of President Akufo-Addo has fallen flat as social media users have turned the heat on him with a barrage of attacks.
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has become the subject of local and international plaudits with his latest address on the coronavirus pandemic which according to people, captures the essence of the ‘war’.
The President, in trying to underscore the seriousness of the government’s approach to the virus, said that saving human lives is his topmost priority despite being aware about the effects some of his decisions could have on the economy.
A quote in the president’s speech has been talked up by many as succinct, profound and as one that speaks to the core of the disturbing times the world finds itself.
"We (government) know how to bring the economy back to life. What we do not know is how to bring people back to life," President Akufo-Addo cautioned during his address on Friday night.
Indifferent and somewhat unimpressed by what he said were misplaced commendations especially for a speech that was plagiarised, Yayra Koko embarked on a journey to dig up the supposed ‘owner’ of the quote.
Having discovered the supposed original quote, the NDC communicator targeted some key personalities who have praised President Akufo-Addo and drew their attention to what he believes was plagiarism and a show of intellectual dishonesty.
But Koku’s ‘busy body’ assignment backfired after one of the persons rejected his claims and emphasized the importance of the president’s speech at a time like this.
Some Ghanaians on social media latched onto the tweet and attacked Koku.
Some of the commentators accused him of lacking sense while others said his action doesn’t show patriotism.
Below are some comments
Hi, @GermanAmbGhana @ShafiAhmed5 @elnocturno @DrTedros I saw your tweets commending @NAkufoAddo for his ‘powerful’ quote. I think the credit shld go to Daniel W. Snare whose original quote the GH Pres. plagiarised & paraphrased. We should not set a bad example for the youth, or? pic.twitter.com/tlgEgbqlCB

You're very petty and cheap. People like you can sell a member of your family to serve a political party. I'm disgusted by your pettiness. Be a Ghanaian first, if that's hard, atleast be a human being. Be concerned about pertinent things at this point in time.

Something is wrong with some of you or what? You are too limited in thinking. The dude found out that they made a mistake for thinking it was originally said by Akuffo Addo but also says anyway it's not a big deal because of the crisis . So what's are you happy about ?

@YayraKoku I had great admiration for the Mahama government and even voted for him 4years ago. I was gonna vote for him again this December, but hell no. Just because of you. Yes, we can be petty too. What you're doing doesn't sell our country in a good image. Grow up.
