The National Women’s Organiser of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Louisa Hanna Bisiw, has descended again on the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department of the Ghana Police Service, COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah over her latest comments on the whereabouts of the kidnapped Takoradi ladies.

Dr Bisiw, who lambasted the Addo-Danquah for sleeping on her job, described her recent comments as untruth and stressed that the whole country was relying on her to produce the three missing ladies.

COP Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah on April 2,2019 announced the police knew where the kidnapped ladies –Priscilla Blessing Bentum, Ruthlove Quayeson and Priscilla Mantsebeah Koranchie – were and assured her outfit was doing the best to get them back to their parents.

Asking the families who had been separated from their children for 8 months to collaborate with the police, the CID at a press conference stated, “We know where the girls are” and pledged to pounce on the kidnappers and free the ladies.

On 23rd April 2019, a pro-NPP newspaper, Daily Guide published that the young ladies were rescued and had been transferred to an unknown BNI Clinic, with one of them sent to the 37 Military Hospital for medical tests. A response from the Ghana Police Service flatly denied the Daily Guide publication.

One month after tyhe back and forth, the families are yet to re-unite with their children.

U-turn

However, in a recent interview with Atinka TV, Mrs Addo-Danquah said she only made the remark to give hope to the grieving families of the ladies.

“I made that comment because I wanted to give hope to the mothers but I have been misconstrued. Maybe people didn’t understand me. For timelines, I cannot say…I just want to assure everyone that the search is still on. We are not sleeping at all,” She said in the TV interview on Saturday.

Criticisms

Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah’s comments were met with harsh criticisms as some critics raise doubts about her competence as the topmost boss at the CID. Some Ghanaians who descended on her for the ‘u-turn’ have been calling for her to tender in her resignation to save the country.

Speaking to Power FM’s Daakyehene Ofosu Agyemang, Dr Hanna Bisiw described Maame Tiwaa’s statement as “reckless and irresponsible” and added the families, just like all well-meaning Ghanaians, were expecting the police to produce the three kidnapped Takoradi ladies.

“We were in this country when she [CID Boss] said they [the police] knew where the girls were. We listened to her and understood her words. She did not speak Greek when she said they knew the whereabouts of the ladies and the kidnappers,” the former Deputy Minister stated.

Dr Bisiw said the NDC women wing were waiting to hear positive news from the police concerning the location of the kidnapped ladies so they could jubilate.

“If we don’t hear from Maame Tiwaa Addo-Danquah in the next 7 days, we [the NDC women wing] will collect signatures and petition the President, the IGP, the Attorney General (AG) and other International agencies,” she added.

She said she would continue to lead women in the NDC to put pressure on the government to find the young ladies from the kidnappers.

Social Media

Yesterday, social media was awash with calls for president Akufo-Addo to fire her and replace her with a more competent person who can frighten criminals in the country.

Others called for the resignation of the CID Boss for failing Ghanaians and the families of the 3 young ladies.

Family Unhappy

Families of the three kidnapped girls are outraged by the comments of the Director-General of the CID.

Spokesperson for families of the kidnapped girls, Michael Hayford who spoke to Power News accused COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo Danquah of bad faith and explained that the families were expecting good news.

Hayford said the families were not happy with the Police Boss and called for them to be serious about the issue.
