A former flag bearer hopeful of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Elikplim Agbemava has taken Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia to the cleaners over his recent incessant attacks on former president John Mahama.

Dr. Bawumia recently reached for the jugular of Mr. Mahama over the country’s banking sector crisis, accusing him of failing to show leadership to resolve the financial meltdown in the country when he was the president.

The Veep said Mr. Mahama prevented the the Regulator, the Bank of Ghana (BoG), to perform its work independently as required by the law, adding that “the problem in the banking system was obvious in 2014 and even before.”

“Even when we were in opposition, we pointed out the basis of an available data that, at least eight banks are likely to collapse, and yet nothing was done and so when things came to a head in 2017, the Bank of Ghana took a decisive step to resolve a situation,”Dr Bawumia said while he reacted to a statement issued by former President Mahama on August 22, that he would set up a Policy Working Group with a view of coming up with a pragmatic solution to the financial crisis.

Dr. Bawumia went on to chastise the Mahama administration for not rolling out rational policies to rescue the falling banks and financial houses, adding that former President Mahama superintended over four years of power crisis (dumsor) which all contributed to the collapse of many businesses.

However, before the former president responds to these issues, Elikplim Agbemava has replied Dr. Bawumia, saying the power crisis which the Mahama administration inherited was solved before the NDC left office.

In a Facebook post, the private legal practitioner described Dr. Bawumia’s comments as “infantile rhetorics” which seek to score cheap political points after Ghanaians accuse the Akufo-Addo government of “killing Ghanaian banks and all the indigenous capital in our financial system.”

“John Mahama resolved the power crises by bringing in more service providers and increasing generation capacity. What more would local businesses want than having sufficient power supply from a situation of scarcity, Dr. Bawumia?,” Agbemava quizzed.

He added, “Power is so abundant now you complain of it being too much for your government to handle. Your style of politicking is so boring and unromantic. It’s not funny or exciting anymore.”

He stated that “Bawumia is a very evasive and boring politician. Faced with accusations of killing Ghanaian banks and all the indigenous capital in our financial system, he resorts to infantile rhetorics.”

Below is the Facebook post.

Bawumia is a very evasive and boring politician. Faced with accusations of killing Ghanaian banks and all the indigenous capital in our financial system, he resorts to infantile rhetorics. John Mahama resolved the power crises by bringing in more service providers and increasing generation capacity. What more would local businesses want than having sufficient power supply from a situation of scarcity, Dr. Bawumia? Power is so abundant now you complain of it being too much for your government to handle. Your style of politicking is so boring and unromantic. It’s not funny or exciting anymore. Now can you answer the question if it is in the public interest for Ghana’s banking sector to be dominated by foreign capital as a result of the ill informed forced liquidations in the financial sector?
