A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko has incurred the wrath of some Ghanaians following his tweet which sought to compare the number of factories built by Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah to what the Akufo-Addo led government has constructed under the ‘One-District-One-Factory’ project.
Mr. Asare Otchere-Darko on Thursday put up a tweet which read: “How many factories did the great Osagyefuo build in 9 years? How many so far are being built under 1D1F? Answers in numbers only please.”
But the response from some tweeps were punctuated with insults as some suggested it was ‘illogical’, ‘reckless’ and ‘shameful’ for the staunch NPP member to compare the two administrations.
The ‘One-District-One-Factory’ programme is aimed at establishing, at least, one factory or enterprise in each of the 216 districts of Ghana as a means of creating economic growth poles that would accelerate the development of those areas and create jobs for the teeming youth.
The policy aims to transform the structure of the economy from one dependent on production and export of raw materials to a value-added industrialised economy, driven primarily by the private sector.
A section of the public is not too happy about government’s pace in fulfilling this and other promises as they have expressed utmost disappointment in the state of affairs.
Asare Otchere-Darko’s tweet, perhaps, was the least they expected.
Here are a few of their reactions
Gabby bringing himself this afternoon. Controversial. Don’t choke me on my lunch. How many of your 1 districts 1 ponds is equal to the Akosombo dam? You go around renovating and rebranding private factories and think you are building factories.

Any attempt by da Danquah-Busia CIA agents, nation wreckers n traitors to compare their dysfunctional government to Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah wont hold. Which factory under 1D1F has been built n functioning so far? Dont tell me those built by others when ur uncle commissioned

The factories built in the 1D1F are only seen by NPP men n women. Judgment day await you politicians

We have graduate engineers working under NABCO,working in hospitals as records officers.
— Ebenezer Amoako (@Amoako3030) July 18, 2019
Why is it that the komenda sugar and other state own engineering are still not in good shape.
Use us the engineers, in the NABCO scheme to revive this industries.
IDIF is a good venture.
This Gabby guy no dey respect. Instead of comparing your achievements to those of Dr Liman and the PNP, he is jumping to The Founder of the Nation. pic.twitter.com/YMWyrMPs6y

This isn't a step in providing that better communication you claim our party isn't doing. Stop comparing and spread the good work please
— M A J O Y???????? (@lifeofAbdul1) July 18, 2019
Who are you asking? How on earth are we supposed to know the number of factories built under 1D1F? Your Information ministry or perhaps Trade and Industry ministry should be letting that information out with concrete evidence.

Ask ur useless govt. Which have a policy of 1D1F and planting for food and jobs policy. Komenda sugar factory is ideal, which needs raw material like sugar cane. If this policy can't run komenda, then the we have the men as ur slogan is useless.
— Seth Afosah (@SAfosah) July 18, 2019
Osagyefo did no go around commissioning Chinese factories and taking the credit for it. Absolute hogwash!
— Cedic Kumate (@gazellelion) July 18, 2019
Oh God. You want to compare the Greatest African of the 21st Century to this ‘I’m Not Akufo-Addo’? Eiii you don’t fear God?
— Scholae ???????? (@ischolae) July 18, 2019

This man here, does not have the country at heart yet he is so close to the seat of government. The country can only flourish if it converts it's resources through state owned factories into profit fetching finished products.....not Chinese and Private owned ones
— Nungua Amoosha (@la_borketey) July 18, 2019
@GabbyDarko no matter what you do, you can NEVER compare your ghost, sham & scam projects to the legacies of Osagyefo, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah. We know how hard you guys are trying to twist the history of Ghana but you have failed.
— iamMarcusMcKeon (@MarcusMcKeon) July 18, 2019
I thought you had conscience, you have not build a single factory oo.
— Kanawuri Redemption ???????????????????????????????? (@kanawuri) July 18, 2019
So how Enerst chemist and some already existing factories are on the list.
Tell me when you built The bolt and nuts factory.
Shameless man
This dude always invite tantrums to the government. SMH @onkross he’s taking you guys to opposition
— Saeed Abdul Hafiz (@PmCasford) July 18, 2019
This politics of comparisons is what is killing our growth. The whole idea of building a nation is to build upon each others efforts but obviously, the quest of glory always blinds are leaders. God help us!!

In this case, you Gabby will be in a better position to tell some of us who were not born then & not much data available to tell then. With 1D1F, the story is the same in that not much info with respect to statistic provided by mins. of information, catch my drift?
