You won’t get away with this - James Agbey slams Wontumi for accusing Naana Jane of authoring 'Agyapadie' document

James Agbey James Agbey

James Agbey, an operative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has criticized Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, for spreading what he describes as "blatant lies" and "misinformation" about Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, the NDC's running mate for the 2024 general elections.

In a press statement, Agbey accused Wontumi, who serves as the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), of making baseless allegations during an interview about Prof. Naana.

“The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Wontumi, has continued, unabashedly, to showcase his recklessness, loose talk, and obsessive devotion to self-promotion against the best interest of Ghana.

“Wontumi’s latest tirade against the 2024 NDC running mate, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, is a mixture of untruths, blatant lies, and clear misinformation calculated to deflect attention away from the real issues contained in the Agyapadie document.

“He opined, rather mischievously, on Abusua FM,” part of the statement said.

According to him, Wontumi has accused Prof. Opoku-Agyemang of being the author of the controversial Agyapadie document, a claim he suggested was an attempt to mislead the public by deliberately omitting her name from the document.

He has vowed to ensure that Wontumi does not get away with his actions as long as he remains active in the NDC.

“Politicians like Wontumi know that there is typically very little cost to bad behavior. In fact, he thinks behaving badly actually gives him a boost. But I want to assure him that he won’t get away with this for as long as I remain an operative of the NDC.

“Let Wontumi and all other agents of misinformation know that no amount of sleazy propaganda, muckraking, lies, half-truths, misrepresentations, misinformation, or disinformation will save the NPP from the impending electoral defeat.

“The truth is, the Agyapadie document is a handiwork of the ‘Akyem mafia’ and no amount of lies from the likes of Wontumi will change anything,” the statement added.

About the Agyapadie document:

The document, forwarded to Okyenhene Ofori Panin, outlines plans by the Akyem faction to maintain control of the NPP.

It details various aspects of Ghanaian life that the so-called ‘Akyem Mafia’ intends to dominate, ensuring the country operates under their influence.

The document predicts key events, including changes in leadership at the Social Security and National Insurance Trust, the collapse of indigenous Ghanaian banks, and the positioning of the Okyenhene as the most powerful chieftaincy institution.

It also mentions targeting certain religious figures opposed to the regime while supporting those in favour.
