National Democratic Congress (NDC) Executives in the Tamale North Constituency are accusing the First Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Joseph Osei Owusu of “whimsical” conduct against their Member of Parliament (MP) Hon Alhassan Sayibu Suhuyini.
A statement copied to MyNewsGh.com jointly signed by all the executives of the party say they will resist any attempt to make the work of their MP difficult by Joseph Osei-Owusu.
The opposition Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan Suhuyini, was ordered to leave the floor of parliament on Wednesday, 6 February 2019 by Joe Osei-Owusu.
Hon. Alhassan Suhuyini was reportedly disrupting proceedings of the house after the Majority side had moved a motion demanding that the Minority apologise to the Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Alhassan, for describing her as a “bloody widow” at her swearing-in ceremony on Tuesday, 5 February 2019 after winning the by-election which was marred with violence.
Mr Osei-Owusu, who found the conduct of Alhassan Suhuyini unparliamentary, said: “Honourable Member for Tamale North, Kindly leave the house.”
Alhassan Suhuyini left the house amidst disapproving shouts from the Minority side.
Tamale North NDC unhappy
The Tamale North NDC Executives are asking for an immediate cease of the attempt to gag their MP whom they are convinced is giving them a good representation in Parliament.

PRESS RELEASE: TAMALE NORTH CONSTITUENCY CONDEMNS THE BEHAVIOR OF THE FIRST DEPUTY SPEAKER OF PARLIAMENT HON JOE OSEI OWUSU
Ladies and Gentlemen, The people’s representatives and their role is cardinal in any Parliamentary democracy. Aside their essential role in the making of laws and formulation of national policies, they act as delegates and trustees of their constituents. By this, their views and opinions are a reflection of the people they represent and should be treated as such.
Ladies and Gentlemen, We the people of Tamale North Constituency took notice of the open hostilities and biases towards our representative; Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Suhiyini from the chairman of the appointments committee and first Deputy speaker of Parliament; Hon. Joe Osei Owusu when the former was discharging his constitutional duty as a member of the committee during the vetting of the first batch of appointments by President Nana Addo.
Special mention can be made of the whimsical decisions the chairman took in disallowing questions we thought were legitimate and relevant during the vetting of the then ministers designate for finance and energy. The chairman though sitting in a position of leadership allowed partisan considerations to get the better of him during most part of their sittings. This was indeed sad but we allowed it to pass.
Ladies and Gentlemen, We are however shocked to the marrow when Hon. Joe Osei Owusu took his open hostilities towards our representative to unprecedented and unimaginable height by walking him out of parliament for ” making noise ” when he sat in for the speaker on Wednesday, 6th of February, 2019. We find the conduct of the first deputy speaker appalling, shamefully pathetic and ludicrous. This was a deliberate attempt to divert the attention of Ghanaians to the barbaric and inhuman activities of his parties hoodlums on innocent NDC supporters in the Just ended Ayawaso West Wuogon Constituency by elections. Sorry Mr First Deputy Speaker, That archaic tactics wouldn’t work.
Ladies and Gentlemen of the Media, We see his continuous and consistent disrespect to our representative as gross and insulting to the people of Tamale North Constituency who elected him as their representative. We call on the Hon Deputy speaker to put meaning to the words ” I will do right to all manner of persons in accordance with the constitution of Ghana and the laws and conventions of Parliament without fear or favour, affection or ill-will ” in the oath he took. We also call on the first Deputy Speaker to as a matter of urgency apologize to the good people of Tamale North Constituency for the continues disrespect and bias towards our representative.
We call on Hon. Alhaji Alhassan Suhiyini to continue with his good works and not allow anyone intimidate him. We are satisfied with the quality of the representation he’s given us this far and pray for God’s limitless guidance for him. Amen.
Finally, to the minority leadership in parliament, if you don’t standup, protect and show solidarity with your very own, nobody will do that for you.
Thank you very much for coming!
Long live Hon Alhaji Alhassan Suhiyini.
Long life Tamale North Constituency!
Hate can’t Win!
Possible together!
Signed
