Former Ashanti regional minister, John Alexander Ackon says it is unfortunate and unacceptable that people are criticising Mr. John Dramani Mahama as an incompetent leader simply because they were not handed ministerial role during his presidential reign.
Speaking on Abusua Nkomo hosted by Kwame Adinkra, the former Ashanti Regional minister indicated that some people are of the view that chastising Mr. Mahama and the National Democratic Congress [NDC] party would make them popular in the political cycle and believes such comments are not necessary for the opposition party.
He said ”The timing for such comments isn’t the best but Kwame in the world, if I want to become popular I can easily say something to create controversy and the controversy would make me popular but as to whether it would make me famous is a different ball game”.
He continued ”Now If you have a member of Parliament number one who is judging the President on the basis of incompetency because he wasn’t given a ministerial position then you can see that the frustrations is on the part of the MP than the President based on that reason alone how do you then define incompetence. I’m sure today he may want to withdraw because people have come to live environment to tell us the voting pattern that went on in certain areas”.
”Again it is not nice for a party that has just come to opposition to be making such comments, why are we in a haste to start playing blame game knowing very well that we need to sit down and make retrospection but at this time whether you bring out all justifications and add all blame games NDC is now in opposition and nothing can change that.”
Ackon who lost the Obuasi West Constituency seat to Kwaku Agyeman Kwarteng of the New Patriotic Party [NPP] however added that anyone who apportions blame immediately after elections is a weak person and cannot be taking the party’s reorganisation.
